What is Safety Innovations?

A professional childproofer spends the day in other people's homes, and most of those homes were not built with a toddler in mind. Stair posts are finished hardwood that nobody wants to drill. The outlet behind the crib has a monitor adapter in it that must stay plugged in. The closet has folding doors, and no knob cover holds those. Safety Innovations products are drawn up by a childproofer for exactly those spots.

What we make

• Outlets and switches. Self-closing plates for standard and Decora outlets, the Twin Door cover box for plugs that stay in, caps for unused outlets, and a guard for wall switches.
• Stairs and gates. A no-hole mounting kit that clamps a hardware-mounted gate to a banister post, Wall Saver pads for pressure gates, and a Floor Saver strip for stand-alone gates.
• Doors and windows. A lock that sits on top of an interior door, a clear lock for bi-fold closets, and the Window Widget that stops a window at the gap you choose.
• Furniture and cabinets. Anti-tip straps for dressers, bookcases and TVs, and spring latches for framed drawers and cabinets.

How the range is shaped

Three habits run through the range. First, fit comes before looks: every product page says what it fits, down to the post width or the door thickness, before it shows a price. Second, we try not to make you drill. The banister kit, the bi-fold lock, the window stop and the wall pads all go on without a hole in your home, which matters in a rental and in a house you are proud of. Third, the adult should find it easy and the child should not: two buttons on the outlet box, a lock at the top of the door, an opening in the switch guard sized for an adult finger.

We have sold our products since 2008. The bi-fold lock is one of the oldest products in the range and still one of the most rated, and the range has grown one fit problem at a time. New products join the catalog when there is a spot in the house that nothing else fits.

A lock is only as good as its fitting

A gate, a lock or a strap buys you time while you are in the next room, and it works only as well as it is fitted. So each product page carries a fit note and installation steps, and five of them carry our installation films. Keep watching your child: hardware is a second line, never the first.
