Safety Innovations No Hole Stairway Gate Mounting Kit

At the bottom of the stairs, a hardware-mounted gate usually means drilling into the newel post. This kit avoids that. Two square clamps bolt around the post, and a 36-inch wood strip fastens to the clamps. Your gate screws into the strip, and no screw goes into the banister.

Measure the post before you order: plan on 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 inches across, square or round, and know that the clamps reach 3 5/8. Round adapters and interlocking shims come in the box, so a slightly out-of-true post still gets a vertical strip. You need one kit for each post the gate attaches to.

1. Measure the post. One kit is needed for each post the gate attaches to.
2. Put a wood block into the back of each clamp and fit the round adapters if the post is round.
3. Attach the lower clamp near the floor, then the upper one, tightening the bolts a little at a time.
4. Level the wood strip with the shims, drill pilot holes into the clamps and fasten the strip.
5. Install your gate on the strip following the gate's own instructions, then trim the strip.
